Once upon a time, there was a kingdom as beautiful as it was ancient. Its beauty was so radiant that it shone for miles around. Its kings and queens ruled over flourishing lands that stretched beyond the horizon, providing abundantly for all their subjects. It was said that every citizen owned coffers overflowing gold, and so widespread was this rumor that it came to be known as the Golden Kingdom. But everything changed when, on the eve of her wedding, the princess was kidnapped by a witch. Her family and her fiancé searched for her far and wide, and her parents grew ill from the worry. When she was finally found, the witch took the life of her brother and cast a curse upon the kingdom before escaping into the forest. The king and the queen, mad with grief, sent for the witch's head but none returned alive. As the coffers dried up and the land decayed, the once-splendid kingdom lost its glory with no one to blame but a witch's curse. A decade later, the princess returned to confront the witch. She defeated her and lifted the curse, but as the kingdom began to heal, the princess vanished without a trace, never to be seen again. At least that's what the legend says.
