Since September 11, 2001, 23,000 services members died in the line of duty. It is estimated that every military death impacts 5-7 loved one. The author is widely recognized as an author, instructor, and speaker in the area of military loss. She is the coauthor of the well-received Military Widow: A Survival Guide. Steen has twenty years of experience as a military instructor, the latter ten in the area of casualty assistance. She founded Grief Solutions in 2006, which initially provided customized training to supplement the training curriculum of military casualty assistance. Since that time, it has worked with more than forty diverse organizations in the military, government, and corporate sectors. Based on interest and demand, Grief Solutions has expanded its focus into the civilian workforce, as the same needs exist in civilian professions and occupations. The “parent to parent” feature included throughout the book is relatable, helpful, and concise. The author is a member of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA).
