The leading African literary award, known as the African Booker, as it is named after the Booker Prize founder, Michael Caine. The collection will be released in time for the announcement of the award in July 2013 and is the book of Africa’s leading literary award. The Caine Prize is rapidly gaining attention worldwide, especially after the 10 year anniversary edition and tour in 2009. Showcases young writers who go on to publish successful novels, for instance: Leila Aboulela, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Brian Chikwava and Helon Habila. Includes 18 short stories – the winner and shortlist (5 stories) plus a dozen stories written at the Caine Prize writers’ workshop. The winner receives $10,000 and a residency at Georgetown University The four African winners of the Nobel Prize for Literature, Wole Soyinka, Nadine Gordimer, Naguib Mahfouz and John Coetzee are patrons of The Caine Prize.
